Contemplating the cosmos.. from an Irving Park studio in Chicago, IL.

Morgan Frew received his MFA in painting from Pratt Institute in 2008, and his BFA in painting from Missouri State University in 2006. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is held in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States. For more details, you can refer to his CV.

Using source materials found primarily from Instagram accounts such as NASA’s Webb Telescope, European Space Agency, and backyard astronomers, Frew’s work walks a line between representation and abstraction. His interest lies primarily with the formal challenges of contemporary painting, as well as its psychology and conceptual concerns.

From 2010-2020, Frew taught drawing, painting and art history in the college classroom, with roles at Drury University, Missouri State University and Cottey College. While he now focuses the majority of his time on his studio practice, he frequently teaches a class or two at Chicago’s Lillstreet Art Center.
